First time at the cabin

Mom took me and my sister Shadow up to the cabin last weekend. I showed her how good I was doing. I was running up and down the hills like a crazy girl and even digging after ground squirrels! You should have seen all the humans looking so shocked that I can still dig – don’t they know how much I love it? Mom made me wear that boot, but I showed her and got it all dirty! It didn’t slow me down one bit. I can’t wait to go again, maybe the lake will have water. I’ve never been a swimming dog but I like to splash and drink lots!

I also got a new shirt to wear as mom was concerned I might fall and hurt my stump. It’s a good fit but it is kind of heavy so she promised to find me a lighter weight one so I don’t overheat. I hope it’s camo so I can sneak up on all the ground squirrels!

Mom’s taking me to the cabin in the hills this weekend!

I’m so excited, but mom is really nervous! I know on two different occasions I’ve sliced my front foot open so bad that I had to have surgery (one paw one time, the other the next time)

Last spring before the amputation

, but now I only have one so I will be really careful. She will still probably make me wear my Ruffwear booties. She also bought a baby gate so I can’t try to run up and down the stairs without my Ruffwear harness. That was a good idea ‘cuz I would probably fall down those steep stairs. I don’t care though because I’m going to the cabin!! I can’t wait!

I’m being a running dog again

Mom took me to a field with my “sister” Shadow and let me run off leash to see how I’d do on uneven terrain. Well I showed her! I took off like a crazy dog and mom couldn’t catch me! I continue to amaze my pawrents and friends with  my pawsitive attitude and ever increasing capabilities. Mom has to keep reminding herself it’s only been a few short months ago that I ran in front of the car.

I’ve also lost most of my fear of cars, only occassionaly will I shy away from a loud one. Mom doesn’t think THAT is a good thing as I pull just as hard as ever when crossing the cursed road that took my leg. She keeps my leash tight and short. Good thing one of us thinks!

Almost 4 months – hard to believe!

Taz has had some challenges. She went from me having to jog to keep up with her to plodding and sitting and resting after only 4 blocks (we were almost up to 10!). We put her on Dasuquin, but also started walking her with our other dog. Not sure which is working but she’s starting to pick up the pace. I’m more into stamina than quick but whatever makes her happy and moving! Tonight at the school she went 2 1/2 times around the football field! She’s happy to get out of the same old routine around the neighborhood so am sure that’s helped as well.
